Day 3 at Ono HS dawned clear and bright - sports day had arrived!!
Another early start saw the Ono students and teachers doing last minute preparation before the parents arrived! We were given our own tent to sit in and watched in awe as the entire school marched onto the ground in unison. A sea of perfect uniform and marching was a sight to behold!
The day continued with heats in various events including the 100m relay and a Sweden relay. Then there was the year level vs. year level tug of war. Each year level made a challenge to the other year levels with chants, cheers and taiko drumming. The year 3 level (our year 12 level) were victorious in the end. It was a sight to behold with more than 20 students chosen to represent their year level. Finally, before lunch, there was the costume dance for each homegroup. They had 30 secs to do a themed presentation to music, including their home group teacher. There were many great ideas that reflected both Japanese culture and icons and the occasional Disney story thrown in! Mr Lilly was invited to be a judge for the costume event.
After lunch it was time for a novelty race and then the clubs parade, with each sports club marching onto the ground together. Finally it was time for our group skipping event. We tried, but with only one practice session, we only managed 11 jumps in a row. But we tried our best and the Ono HS students clapped and cheered for us! It made us feel a part of the school!
After skipping were finals and then the year 3 celebration dance. All of the students participated in in a rotational dance to celebrate their last sports day.
It was another long hot day, so everyone is looking forward to the holiday tomorrow!!
